A Few Days Spent Branding our Calves

Branding season is one of my favorite times of year.  I love getting together with friends and family and spending the day catching up!  My job every year is to make the food and this year I was worried I would not be able to find all the things I needed.  Although it was a challenge as I wasn't thrilled about traveling out of town for groceries I managed to get the things I needed.  Thanks to one of our localish(is that a word!) stores I was able to get enough chicken legs to cook for our usual crowd!  And brandings would not be the same without a good cheesecake! 

It was a great three days visiting and of course watching everyone work!  Why do you think I have six kids?! And seeing all of them in one place is always a day to treasure!  Another year of calves ready to send off to summer pasture with their moms where hopefully they have plenty of green grass. 

Thankfully we had no major crashes this year as we have in the past.  I have been known to have to haul my husband to the hospital during past brandings.  Our only accident this year was one of my kids slicing his finger with a knife, did I have band aides? of course not!  But thanks to essential oils, paper towels and electrical tape all was good!

And this year unlike last year I even remembered the paper plates!  Had to make a quick trip to town last year to grab some.  I mean do you expect me to remember everything?!  Yes I know I need to make a list, you'd think I would learn by now!  Maybe next year, but who am I kidding, probably not!
